Asia/Hello Kitty Flight Extravaganza - Introduction

I'm currently in the middle of my first (and hopefully not last) big trip of 2014. Many non-related events led to me booking this trip. They include:
  • A group of my friends found a great deal on United's Island Hopper (Honolulu (HNL) to Guam (GUM) the long way) for March 2014
  • My family wanted to go on their annual Taiwan trip in March 2014
  • United had an award devaluation beginning February 2014 which they announced months ahead of time
As you can see, everything fell into place for a March vacation. I originally wanted to go on the Island Hopper but missed the deal deadline so I decided to meet my friends in Hong Kong because that was their final destination. And because of the United devaluation (which majorly affected business and first class international award tickets), I decided to fly to and within Asia in style. Plus it's been my travel goal to go on one of EVA Air's Hello Kitty flights which either originate or end in Taipei so this was the time to do it.
